Don't miss NYO’s San Diego Premier Symphony making an Extremely
rare
U.S. performance of Mily Balakirev Symphony #1 in C Major

This is your invitation to attend a rare performance of Mily Balakirev Symphony #1 in C Major by NYO’s San Diego Premier Symphony.  You can hear this wonderful piece during the San Diego Youth Orchestra - NYO New Youth Orchestra Program advanced level Winter concert that is scheduled Saturday January 21st 2017.

Russian composer Mily Balakirev is another world class composer who's symphonic works have been scarcely performed in the United States as well as Europe. Most likely, the San Diego Premier Symphony's coming Winter 2017 concert will be the first ever performance of this great work to be made in San Diego.

Professional pianist, conductor and composer Mily Balakirev was included in the "The Five" — the others were Alexander Borodin, César Cui, Modest Mussorgsky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. He is known today primarily for his work promoting musical nationalism and his encouragement of more famous Russian composers, notably Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. He began his career as a pivotal figure, extending the fusion of traditional folk music and experimental classical music practices begun by composer Mikhail Glinka. In the process, Balakirev developed musical patterns that could express overt nationalistic feeling.

This may be the last opportunity to hear this work live, and fortunately it will be skillfully performed by San Diego's most talented youth ensemble, NYO's San Diego Premier Symphony.
